Five persons including two Kashmiri youth and a Goan have been arrested for trafficking narcotics namely Hashish Oil, MDMA, Charas and Ganja, through a series of raids by Crime Branch and Calangute police.
In the raids carried out within a span of 24 hours, the police confiscated drugs valued at a whopping Rs 17 lakh approx.
The highest seizure is worth Rs 11.45 lakh approx wherein the CB arrested Canacona local Benedito Fernandes. SP Nidhin Valsan informed that the 51-year-old was caught in the illegal possession of greenish colour flowering and fruiting tops of a plant suspected to be narcotic drugs Ganja, weighing 5.452 Kgs, Blackish colour oily substance suspected to be Hashish Oil weighing 636 gms and cash of Rs 2000 in various denominations along with other articles.
In another raid at Candolim, the Calangute police arrested two Kashmiris Waseem Bhat and Shakil Ahmed for allegedly peddling black colour sticky substance suspected to be Charas weighing approx 225gms and orange colour powder-like substance suspected to be MDMA weighing 20 gms. The seized narcotics in the raid at Candolim are worth Rs 2.50 lakh.
In the third raid at Calangute, CB sleuths arrested Malik Sayed for allegedly peddling Cocaine, weighing 4.18 grams and MDMA weighing 2.50 grams, all worth Rs 75,000 approximately.
The raid at Mapusa, also by a team of CB, witnessed arrest of a 52-year-old Ahmednagar native. Accused Ashok Lagad was caught red-handed with 2.250 grams of Ganja while he waited for his prospective customer in an open parking place at Mapusa, said Valsan, adding that its value is worth Rs 2.25 lakh approx.
The alleged peddler had traveled to Goa from his native to especially deal with the distribution of drugs.
Goa Police has booked over seven cases of NDPS in the current month so far. This has taken the total worth of seizures to around Rs 28 lakh.
