Chicalim Bio-Crusaders Convenor and environmental activist Cyril Fernandes on Saturday appealed to Goans to protect Goa’s rich biodiversity.
Fernandes also highlighted the over-exploitation of freshly breeding window pane oysters in Chicalim and Sancoale Bay by people from Mormugao and other localities.
"After many years, window pane oysters are attempting to re-breed in the Chicalim Bay and we, Goans need to help this breeding activity. Instead, it is observed that people from all over south Goa have converged at this ecologically sensitive site and cause immense damage to the local biodiversity in their pursuit of extracting these under-developed window pane oysters,” said Fernandes.
“On behalf of Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, I appeal to people to help protect the breeding site from this human attack against these species which cannot defend themselves but needs human support to survive and grow to their natural formations.”
