The Google Developer s Group- Goa Android Users Group (GDG GAUG) has since 2012 been organizing a simultaneous event under the I/O Extended tag to help upgrade skills of developers in the State. Group manager Prajyot Mainkar says the I/O extended event helps bring all announcements made at the conference to the developer community in the State too. This year however, a healthy addition will help in better understanding them. “We ve been organizing I/O Extended events since 2012. This year however, we are extending these sessions to post IO so that we can bring in best announcements on the table and help users understand how it will help their development,” he says. The aim is to make it engaging and make participants relate to case to case basis. This year s conference saw announcements in areas of Virtual Reality, Android Wear 2.0, a new platform to build mobile and web applications called Firebase as well as the much awaited Android N. The event being held on May 28, at GCCI is expected to attract around 80 people mostly comprising of second year engineering to final year students and professionals working in the IT sector. The focus this year will be on Firebase and N features for developers. In the past, events have mostly been event previews of keynotes and a few sessions. This time however, Mainkar says sessions that are advance technology centric after researching main announcements, “a test driven practical approach rather than just a demo and announcement video.” Though GDG GAUG s event is next week, another developer group, the GDG Goa organized a live streaming on Friday.Sessions are based on crisp 20 to 30 minute explanations by experts with up to date market trends and interactions. “From a group of five, the group today has 1200+ members. A lot of has changed since then,” he says. The group would organize sessions discussing basics of Android back in 2012 but audiences today demand expert tech sessions, a sign that the Android scene in Goa is changing for the better.
