Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said an appropriate decision will be taken on the ongoing curfew in the State after holding a meeting with the deputy collectors and health officers on Saturday.
“We will review the ongoing curfew restrictions on Saturday and accordingly take the next decision. We will hold a meeting with the deputy collectors and the health officers,” Sawant said.
He said the curfew restriction was stringent in the State as all markets were completely shut.
He further said some relaxation was offered for the opening of hardware shops after the cyclone so that people can carry on with the repair works.
COVID DEATH TOLL: Meanwhile, the State’s Covid victim toll on Wednesday showed a dip. The Directorate of Health Services recorded 31 Covid mortalities and 1209 new cases of the infection in the last 24 hours.
With this, the total Covid victim count of Goa has risen to 2,228. The daily positivity rate fell to 31.2 per cent and the sample size tested in the last 24 hours also saw a plunge to 3,873.
The state currently has 22,964 active cases of Covid-19.
Of the 31 deaths, 18 occurred at Goa Medical College and Hospital, 12 at South Goa District Hospital and one at a private hospital in North Goa.
Of the deceased persons, four had received the first dose of Covid vaccine.
Vax drive drags feet
Meanwhile, the vaccination drive for the 45 years and above age category continues to drag its feet in the state with only 84 beneficiaries from this category stepping out to receive their second dose on Wednesday. The total number of beneficiaries fully vaccinated in Goa stands at 95,655. On the other hand, 2.58 lakh beneficiaries have taken the first dose of the vaccine. The state government has 1,97,300 surplus vaccine doses allotted for this category.
Strangely though, the surplus vaccine doses allocated to the 18-44 years age category have increased to 19,600 even though the state government has yet to receive the second allotment for this group.
