Taking strong exception to the statement of Governor Mridula Sinha that “marriages should not break”, Ponda MLA and former chief minister Ravi Naik stated that the Governor is “taking away freedom of families”.
“I don’t understand what she wants to say. She is taking away the freedom of the families,” Naik said while speaking at the annual day programme of Rajaram Tarabai Bandekar College of Pharmacy at Farmagudi-Ponda.
Chief guest, Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande, Suvarn Bandekar, vice-president of PES Prakash Dharvatkaer, R G Desai, Kishore Naik, Datta Naik, principal Dr S N Mhamale and students general secretary Aprant Karbotkar were present.
On Tuesday, Governor Mridulha Sinha had taken oath from post-graduate and doctorate students of the Goa University that they would not walk out of their marriages. “One should not break marriages. Marriages are necessity,” she had said.
“By giving oath to youngsters, she is trying to take away their freedom. Our constitution has given us freedom. How the wife will tolerate her husband if she is harassed? Husband could also face this situation,” Naik added.
Speaking to The Goan, Naik said the Governor should not interfere in family matters. “I don’t understand why she is interfering in family matters. It is upto every family how to live,” Naik said.
Naik appealed to the students to imbibe discipline in life, which will help them in their career. “You can achieve your goals if you have discipline,” Naik said.
Lawande, graduated from PES, said he has a bonding with the college.
“It is heartening that the college also maintained the bond,” he said.
He advised the students to show their performance wherever they work.
“Excellence gives good job, but when you join work, performance matters a lot,” he said.
