PANAJI: A bonanza awaits thousands of aspirants for the much coveted government jobs, with the high-level committee formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar approving the creation of 1,200 posts in various government departments.
While the committee has reportedly cleared 900 posts in the police department, the remaining 300 posts will be created in six other departments, sources told The Goan.
The Parrikar-led committee is believed to have given its approval to the creation of 900 posts (police), 35 posts (prosecution), 70 posts (environment), 90 posts (land and settlement) and 60 posts (panchayats). The departments concerned will release advertisements to fill these posts.
Several posts in the police department had been vacant for many years and they included the posts of police constables, PSI's and other designations.
The government had formed two committees, one consisting of officials and the other committee headed by the chief minister. The committee of officials evaluates the job positions of the department concerned.
This committee focuses on requirements of posts, the possibility of abolishing the posts and outsourcing them, the creation of new posts and revising the cancelled posts, if necessary.
The committee headed by the chief minister will then take a final decision on the proposals recommended by the committee of officials.
The setting up of a committee to clear government jobs is a departure from the earlier system, whereby earlier proposals for government jobs would be put forth before the cabinet for approval.
When contacted, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar confirmed that a meeting had been convened in this connection.
“A meeting was convened and some posts were cleared. The file has come to me but it has not been finalised unless I sign on the minutes of the meeting,” said Parrikar.

PANAJI: When Chief Minister Parrikar issued instructions to all ministers and heads of departments to prepare a comprehensive plan and new proposals for a meeting ahead of the State's budget on February 22, one would have assumed that the response would have been positive. On the contrary, most ministers and department heads are set to attend the meeting without the necessary plans and proposals, with only a few of them having diligently prepared their plans. During the…
