MAPUSA
Congressman and senior councillor, Sudhir Kandolkar said the Mapusa River (Tar River) has been polluted due to the sewage that has been left into the river and replacing the pipe bridge across NH-66 will not resolve the pollution issue of the river.
He said the government needs to connect the houses and business establishments in Mapusa to the sewerage line and kick-start the sewerage plant on top priority. He also stressed the importance of dredging the entire river on top priority.
“Many households in the town release their sewage into the gutters which makes its way into the nullahs which in turn is connected to the Mapusa River. The waste from the fish market and some hotel waste is also released in the nullahs which find its way into the river. The pollution of the river will stop only when all the households and establishments in the market are connected to the sewerage line,” Kandolkar said.
