Govt notifies special assistance scheme for sugarcane cultivators

The Government of Goa (Agriculture Department) has notified a scheme “Special Assistance for Sugarcane Growers” in the State. 

As per the scheme, the Sugarcane farmers will get cash benefits per metric tonne production of sugarcane.

The scheme will which will come into force during 2020-21 and shall remain in force for five years. Assistance for the first year will be provided based on the highest productivity obtained by the concerned farmer during the last 5 years (2015-16 to 2019-20) limited to 80 MT per Ha.

From harvesting season 2021-22 onwards the assistance shall be paid based on the actual area cultivated by the farmer and his actual production.

The actual area will be assessed by SSSKL (Sanjivani Sahakari Sakar Karkhana Limited) and will be certified by the concerned Zonal Agriculture Officer. 

The farmers will for the first year (2020-21) receive Rs 3,000 per MT, for second year (2021-22) Rs 2,800 per MT, for third year (2022-23) Rs 2,600 per MT, fourth year (2023-24) Rs 2,400 per MT and fifth year (2024-25) Rs 2,200 per MT. 

The farmers taking benefit of this scheme shall not be eligible to assured price for sugarcane under the scheme Assured Price for Agriculture Produce. Also, the farmers will not be paid any additional charges for harvesting and transportation of sugarcane.
