PANAJI: Already dis-empowered by the constitution of the Mopa Development Authority, the Tuem panachayat will soon find its powers taken away from administering nearly six-lakh square metres where the State government is proposing to set up an Information Technology township. The Goa government has already proclaimed the area of nearly six-lakh square meters in Tuem, Pernem as 'notified area' for the 'IT township' and has proposed to transfer its jurisdiction to the Department of Information Technology.
Objections have been called for from the public to this proposal by which the powers of the local panchayat will be withdrawn vis-a-vis laws control over erection of buildings, levy and collection of taxes, fees and other dues currently in force and hand these power to the Department of Information Technology.
