Students pursuing studies in the government-run Goa Medical College and Goa Dental College besides signing a bond to work at the hospital for a period of two years after passing, will now have to submit a bank guarantee of Rs 5 lakh for graduation and Rs 10 lakh for post-graduation, double the amount that was set earlier.

The government has taken this decision to pre-empt students from leaving their courses mid-way and also to ensure that successful students serve in the State for at least two years.

For students pursuing postgraduate diploma courses, the bank guarantee is set at Rs 7 lakh and for allied health science courses the amount is Rs 5 lakh.

If the student breaks the bond then the bond penalty is to be increased to Rs 50 lakh.

Every year, 150 MBBS students pass out from the Goa Medical College.
