Govt seized of court bldg condition, plastic sheet cover is temporary measure: Cabral

MARGAO
Law Minister Nilesh Cabral has said the government is seized of the condition of the Margao Civil and Criminal Court building, saying the Court building is being covered with plastic sheets as a temporary measure to stop water seepage during rains.

Cabral, who also holds the PWD portfolio in the Pramod Sawant government, has claimed that though the PWD had tendered repairs of the Court building, there were not no takers for the project.

The PWD Minister told The Goan that the government had carried out repairs to the Margao Civil and Criminal Court building around four years ago. “The government is seized of the condition of the Margao Civil and Criminal Court building. We had carried out repairs to the building around four years ago,” he said.

Cabral added: “The PWD had tendered the repair work of the Court building, but no contractor had participated to take the work. Since the monsoons have set in, the PWD will float the tender again so that work on the building can start after the rains.”

Saying he is aware of the situation, Cabral said he would get the roof of the building repaired after the rains.

PWD officials in the know informed that since the Court building roof could not be repaired ahead of the monsoons, the authorities later covered the entire roof with plastic sheets to stop water seepage during the rains.

A senior PWD official pointed out that contractors are shying away from participating in tenders floated by the agency because of the non-revision of the GSR rates.
