Govt sets July 30 target for jabs to all in 18-44 group

MAPUSA

Setting an ambitious target of vaccinating all Goans in the 18-44 age group by July 30 in its fight against the raging Covid-19 disease, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the State government was aiming to be the first State in the country to be 100 per cent vaccinated.

“Our aim is to make Goa the first State in the country to complete hundred per cent vaccination. To accomplish this task, I request all Goans who are eligible for vaccination to come out and get inoculated,” Sawant said.

The chief minister was speaking to journalists at the sidelines of a function commemorating World Environment Day at Campal garden in Panaji on Friday.

Continuing, Sawant said the government has now widened the scope for vaccination under priority groups covering the parents with children till 10 years of age.

In a tweet, Sawant said “from tomorrow, parents in 18-44 age group with a child of age 10 or less will be eligible for priority vaccination”.

“Initially, the government had opened up vaccination for parents of the child less than two years of age and also for those with comorbidity conditions. After taking a review, we found that only 1,300 people had got themselves vaccinated under this category,” he said and therefore increased the scope of the parents for vaccination.

He said the government had prioritised the parents of children, seafarers, motorcycle taxi, taxi and rickshaw operators and differently abled to conduct the vaccination programme in phases.

On the extension of the curfew in the State, the chief minister said he would hold a review meeting on the Covid situation in the State and accordingly decide on the continuation of the curfew.

The curfew which was extended on May 30 now ends on the morning of June 7.
