Govt to conduct resurvey of toilets in rural areas

PANAJI
The State government has decided to conduct resurvey in order to find out how many are really in need of bio and normal toilets. The survey will be conducted through the Panchayat department.

People who want normal toilets or bio-toilets will have to provide requisite information to the panchayats. The government has assigned the responsibility to solid waste management corporations for installing bio-toilets in the villages and the related documentation work will be done through the panchayat department.

The solid waste management department has issued an order of around 20,000 bio-toilets and work for around 2,000 normal toilets has been completed. As there is a delay in the central construction work of the toilets, the government has decided to complete the task through locals as it will generate employment.

Those who want to construct their toilets directly can also apply for government financial aid. Due to the slow pace of the toilet construction work, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant held a meeting with the officials of NABARD, Directorate of Panchayat, Solid Waste Management Corporation and Municipal Administration.

Earlier, the government used to provide bio-toilets and construct toilets through an agency. Now the CM has taken the decision to allow locals to construct toilets on their own and release subsidy amount to them.
