Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Thursday informed the Goa Legislative Assembly that a Kerala-registered boat which sank off Goa coast was owned by an official of the Captain of Ports department and an inquiry has been initiated in the matter.
Khaunte also assured to take action against illegal water sports activities at Baina and Bogmalo. “The water sports policy was drafted to take care of various illegalities but some stakeholders involved in the water sports activities questioned the intention of the Tourism Department. The government is firm and we will deal with all such illegal sports operators,” Khaunte said.
The Tourism Minister was responding to Vasco MLA Krishna (Daji) Salkar who raised the issue at Zero Hour of illegal water sports activities being carried out on the Baina beach thereby endangering lives of locals and tourists alike.
He said an overloaded boat drifted away on January 14 and had to be rescued by CISF while on January 15 a boat capsized mid-sea.
“A number of boats have had accidents due to overloading and overlooking of safety measures on the boats,” Salkar said.
