PERNEM
Mandrem AAP in-charge Advocate Prasad Shahapurkar has requested the State government for full subsidy on rented harvesting machines.
Speaking to reporters, Shahapurkar said Goa had received heavy rainfall during the harvesting period this year and harvesting machines had to be deployed to get the harvesting work done.
“This caused farmers losses as they had to pay extra rental charges for the machines. The government should provide a 100% subsidy to farmers on rental charges for harvesting machines,” said Shahapurkar.
“On average, Pernem produces about 5 lakh tonnes of rice and 14 harvesting machines were deployed in the taluka this year. The rate of these machines is Rs 2,400 per hour, while the subsidised charge is Rs 1,200. However, considering the difficulties faced by farmers, the government should offer a full subsidy on rental charges for harvesting machines,” he added.
