The Cuncolim Civic and Consumer Forum (CCCF) has decided to write to various officials of the government of Goa with a request to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for permitting health or therapy camps in towns and villages in Goa.
CCCF will write to the District Collector & Chairman South Goa District Consumer Protection Council, Director Health Services, Director Consumer Affairs, Director Municipal Administration besides SP (South) Goa Police.
CCCF pointed out that a leaflet was inserted in the newspapers in Cuncolim informing people of an acupressure, sujok, magnet and vibration therapy treatment camp to be held from July 16 to 20 and conducted by Cuncolim Union Club and managed by acupressure therapist Anup Chaudhary. The registration fee was set at Rs 100 only and treatment was to be provided free for five days.
On scrutinising the leaflet, CCCF secretary Lorna Fernandes pointed out Cuncolim Union is written as “Cuncolim Union Club” and that Cuncolim Union Hall, Culwada was shown as the venue and that the camp is organised by a group from Jodhpur (Rajasthan).
She said after CCCF contacted the President Cuncolim Union, Suraj Ambe it was clarified that the Cuncolim Union had only provided a room on rent as a venue for the camp and was in no way involved in conducting the camp.
