Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday assured the Goa legislative assembly that the government will introduce a bill providing for contract farming in the next session of the House.
Sawant said the State government has tied up with NABARD to form Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in all the 12 talukas, and already six FPOs have been formed.
He said most in Goa were marginal farmers with small holdings, and such community farming was beneficial.
Sawant was replying to the private member's resolution moved by Vijai Sardesai, Cruz Silva and Carlos Alvares Ferreira seeking a law to permit contract farming, which was withdrawn following Sawant's assurance.
