GRA demands probe in transportation of cattle

The members of Govansh Raksha Abhiyan (GRA) on Friday gathered yet again at Ponda Police station to demand investigation in the cattle that were reportedly transported from Maharashtra via Karanataka for slaughter in Goa last week.
The members have also demanded action against the veterinary doctor of Mollem hospital, alleging that he gave ‘transportation certificate,’ which actually doesn’t come under his ambit.
GRA president Hanumant Parab along with members questioned Ponda PI Sudesh Naik on the status of their complaint, where they were told that it was under investigation and the police require time.
Parab had suspected that the cattle was transported for slaughtering from Maharashtra, where the slaughtering of cattle is banned, via Karnataka, and had demanded probe into the matter.
Speaking to The Goan, Parab said the police should investigate the transportation of cattle from Maharashtra and the seller should be booked for illicit trade.
Parab stated that the veterinary doctor at Mollem hospital issued transportation certificate to a meat dealer, which actually should be issued by the local Regional Transport Office.
“If the cattle was brought from Karnataka, then transportation certificate should be issued by local RTO and not from Goa. The vehicle that transported three cattle last week was registered in Karnataka,” Parab said.
Goa Meat Complex chairman Lyndon Monteiro had earlier refuted the allegation levelled by GRA and had said they have followed all rules and procedure.
