MARGAO
In times of the pandemic, a couple of graduates were seen at the Margao Municipal Council building on Monday for a walk-in interview for the 50 posts of daily wage workers.
When the Margao Chief Officer Agnelo Officer saw the applications of graduates, he explained to them they will have to work with the fire brigade to clear uprooted trees from the roads and even be ready for manual jobs with the civic body.
The Chief Officer said the civic body will provide some labourers to the Margao fire brigade to attend to emergencies, but majority of them will be drafted for manual jobs in the city, including clearing of drains. The two-day walk-in interviews were called by the civic body after the Director of Municipal Administration Gurudas Pilarnekar sanctioned the proposal received from the MMC to engage the labourers for Rs 500 per day.
