Stating that society needs to create awareness among children about the importance of trees, former chief minister and Poriem MLA Pratapsing Rane has appealed to people to grow at least one tree for a better environment.
He was addressing a function organised by the forest department's Valpoi Division to plant saplings at the Bhumika Education Complex in Poriem.
Among those present at the event included Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Santosh Phadte, ZP Member Sagun Wadkar, ZP member Devyani Gavas, Poriem Sarpanch Sakha Sawant, Bhumika Higher Secondary School Principal Yashwant Sawant, Bhumika High School Headmistress Neeta Gavkar and Valpoi RFO Deepak Tandel.
“Considering the constant changes caused by climate, everyone needs to know the importance of nature. Every section of society needs to create awareness among children about the importance of trees.”
“The forest department organises a large number of festivals to plant saplings especially during the monsoon season. Everyone should grow at least one tree for a better environment,” said Rane.
DCF Santosh Phadte said a large number of saplings are distributed for free in nurseries across the State.
“Every citizen should take advantage of this facility. The emphasis this year is on planting fruit-bearing saplings in the forest,” said Phadte.
On the occasion, Rane and other officials planted saplings in the area.
