PORVORIM
Heavy rains since the last two days have led to waterlogging in several parts of Salvador do Mundo.
Traffic and electricity have also been disrupted as branches fall on roads and electricity poles.
One of the worst affected areas was Salem, with rainwater flooding the area in front of the temple.
“The whole area in front of the temple was flooded and water was flowing in front of the temple across the road, making it difficult for people to enter the temple,” said a local, Anthony Rebello.
“The entrances to houses opposite the temple were also flooded and water even entered one of the houses. The Salvador do Mundo panchayat and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte were requested to take immediate action to clear the waterlogged area,” said Rebello.
Acting on requests from locals and the Porvorim MLA, Salvador do Mundo Sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar swung into action and dispatched workers to the Maringan temple to clear the area.
The workers removed the slabs and cleaned the drain, thereby facilitating the smooth flow of water and clearing the waterlogged area.
Linesmen of the electricity department also worked during the rains to restore the power supply in the affected areas.
