VALPOI

Heavy rains disrupted normal life in Sattari taluka, while a minor landslide was reported along the Goa-Belagavi highway at the Chorla Ghat.

A number of roads, especially in rural areas, were blocked as trees got uprooted and came crashing down in Sattari.

A tree fell on a truck near the veterinary hospital at Honda, causing some damage to the vehicle. No one was injured in the incident.

According to sources at the Valpoi fire station, a tree fell and blocked the Valpoi-Koparde road. The firefighters later removed the fallen tree from the site.

While a minor landslide was reported along the Goa-Belagavi highway at the Chorla Ghat, the route was not closed for traffic but there were concerns of further landslides if heavy rains continue overnight in the area.

When contacted, officials of the PWD (highway) admitted there was a minor landslide at the Chorla Ghat.

“At present, the road is open for traffic and there is no problem to use the highway. Special machinery has been deployed in the are in case there are more landslides,” said an officer.
