Strong winds and incessant rains disrupted power supply in Mapusa and surrounding villages on Wednesday evening.
Complaints of trees getting uprooted at a few places in Bardez were reported at the Mapusa fire station.
The electricity supply in many parts of Mapusa was majorly affected and at some places for several hours, even as the power department officials were on their toes to restore supply.
There were reports that frequent power outages and fluctuations damaged electrical gadgets of some residents.
“I can understand lights going off two to three times a day. But this has become like a disco. All our electronic items are getting spoiled,” said a local from Mapusa.
“My refrigerator got spoiled due to these fluctuations. If this continues we are in for more disaster,” said another.
“Frequent power failure in the heart of the city of Mapusa is ridiculous. We need to get together and lodge a complaint with the power department,” said yet another distressed consumer from Mapusa.
A senior official in the Mapusa electricity department informed that a tree branch had fallen on the HT line at Sebastionvaddo, Mapusa which caused the disruption on Thursday evening.
But Mapusa has been witnessing erratic power supply for the last several days.
Incidentally, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza along with senior engineers of the department had inaugurated a new power sub-station at Carrasvaddo, Mapusa on the Statehood day (May 30) with much fanfare.
Sources informed that the Mapusa MLA has taken up the issue of the irregular power supply with the chief minister who had visited the vaccination centres in Mapusa on Wednesday.
