Govansh Surakshak Abhiyan (GSA) along with the Bhartiya Gau Kranti Manch (BGKM) have decided to take a list of their demand including that of promoting local breeds in comparison to foreign ones, to New Delhi and present a memorandum to the President and Prime Minister.
Speaking to media persons, GSA president Hanuman Parab said Jersey and other foreign breeds of cows being promoted in the State needs to be stopped.
“The State is promoting Jersey and other foreign breeds of cows because it gives a little more milk than local breeds. But this practice should be stopped because milk from the foreign breeds come with diseases,” he said. He pointed to countries like Brazil that have forbidden the use of Jersey cows and instead promote Indian breeds.
Parab said the issue along with others will be taken up at an All India meet at the Ram Leela Maidan, New Delhi, where animal activists from around the country will be highlighting issues about cattle in their states.
From Goa, over 100 activists have decided to join the protest. Among a list of their demands, GSA has also asked that the central government should provide milk free of cost to school children at the primary and middle school level.
“The State and Centre should also consider setting up an all India research centre to study means by which products obtained from the cow can be used in daily life. For example, cow dung can be used to generate gas and can be used as a source of energy,” he said.
Another demand they have asked for is the complete stop of cow slaughter by bringing an amendment to the existing law.
The All India protest at New Delhi will be held on February 28.
