The officers association of the Goa Goa State Co-operative Bank (GSCB) on Saturday demonstrated in the capital peacefully in a bid to draw attention to the managements failure to revise wages for nearly 7-8 years.
The association also threatened a strike if the bank's management does not take cognisance of their demand and takes some tangible action including starting negotiations.
Subash Naik Jorge, who heads the GSCB Officers Association, said the bank had been making profits for last several years and is also reportedly contemplating new recruitments as many employees have retired over the last few years.
However for existing employees and officers, no increase in wages has been effected over the last 7-8 years, said, adding that the last negotiated wage settlement had expired in December 2013.
The Association has already submitted a new charter of demands seeking revision of wages with effect from 2014, he said.
“The management continued the rhetoric that the bank was running in loss since 2014. But since 2018, the bank started making a profit," Naik Jorge said, adding that the association reiterated its demand for wage revision.
He said the officers hope that the management sees reason and negotiates with both the unions to arrive at an amicable settlement.
“If the bank does not take a decision, we will take the extreme step of striking work,” Naik George said.
