GST impact: Hair-cut to cost more in Margao

MARGAO
Hair-cut and an early morning shave at the saloons in the commercial capital and those located on the city outskirts may cost extra now, beginning from November 1.
Claiming that their business has been hit by GST on cosmetics, Saloon Owners Association, Margao, which has in its fold around 170 members, have decided to increase minimum hike of Rs 10 on a hair-cut and shave from next month.
"We are helpless and have been left with no option than to hike the rates of hair-cut, shave and other services offered by the saloons due to GST implementation on cosmetics. GST implementation on cosmetics have left us with no option since we are now required to shell out additional money to purchase cosmetic material," stated Association general secretary Sudesh
Gauthankar.
At a joint meeting of the saloon association held recently, members conveyed to the executive committee their various difficulties post-GST implementation.
The saloon owners are believed to have maintained that they had not hiked the rates since last three years, pointing out that the GST rates have only made matters worse. "Since there is no other option, we have been forced for minimum increase of our saloon rates uniformly from November 1. New rate charts will be made available to all the registered saloon owners before November 1,"
Sudesh said. Saloon owners charge Rs 50 for a hair-cut and a shave in the city and the rate may now go up to Rs 60, with a hike of Rs 10.
