Office bearers of Cansaulim Arossim Cuelim Civic and Consumer Forum and Cansaulim Villagers Action Committee have questioned the GTDC for claiming that operators of "heli joy rides” had requisite permissions and licences to conduct sorties at Park Hyatt in Arossim.
Responding to a GTDC press release, the two forums insisted that the local panchayat should have been involved in the matter.
“If they had the licences, then it was their obligation to put the references of the so-called licences and permissions in public domain, ideally the Cansaulim Arossim Cuelim Panchayat, who are the elected custodians of the village and who are responsible for what activity goes on in their village,” stated a joint press note by the two forums.
“What is even more shocking is the statement of Alina Saldanha, a cabinet minister, expressing in public that she was kept in the dark about air operations such as helicopter rides in her constituency, that could have serious security ramifications and consequences.”
“Is not GTDC Chairman Nilesh Cabral bound by the conduct of transparency and the need to keep the locals in the know, of what is happening in their locality? Instead, he is justifying his wrongdoings and indulging in damage control, after stringent opposition to his nonsensical and whimsical helicopter rides commenced disturbing the peace and tranquility of the village,” the press note added.
