The police has succeeded in recovering the entire property robbed from the house of victim Joaquim Estibeiro, including the gold ornaments and cash, even as the police has recovered three weapons, including the knife, koita and hammer used to assault the husband-wife victims.

Both the accused persons have been remanded to eight days police custody.

District Police chief, South Arvind Gawas said the police has recovered the TV set, an oven, two LPG cylinders, besides cash of Rs 45,000 and the gold ornaments robbed from the house of the Estibeiros. The police has also attached the Swift car used in the commission of the offence.

The SP said both the accused Sheikh Anwar, a resident of Housing Board colony, Porvorim and Sarfaraj Adam, a resident of Zoriwaddo-Davorlim have criminal cases pending against them. “We are ascertaining whether the duo has been involved in other similar offences registered by the police stations in South Goa police jurisdiction,” he said.

When asked to shed light on the quick breakthrough achieved by the police in the Guirdolim robbery case, SP Gawas said the modus operandi adopted by the accused assisted the police to zero in on the two accused and crack the daring case. “When the LIB staff from neighbouring police stations were called to assist the case, they arrived at the conclusion that these two accused could be the suspects since they had effected entry into the house by removing the roof tiles. Accordingly, we shortlisted them and after ascertaining their whereabouts zeroed in on them and before nabbing them at Porvorim and Betim on Sunday,” he added.

The district police chief said the assistance of Curchorem police inspector Ravi Desai, besides officials of Verna

and Margao police stations were requisitioned to detect the case.
