Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Goa could be the cynosure of many eyes if Vadodara girl, Kshama Bindu, slated to undergo sologamy (marriage to herself) on June 11, goes ahead with a two-week honeymoon on its famed sandy shores.

Bindu is slated to marry herself in a traditional ceremony according to rituals including doing the 'saat pheras' around the sacred fire by herself, at a local temple. Her friends and her parents are expected to attend, reports published by multiple news portals and outlets have said.

While the itinerary of Bindu's honeymoon with herself in Goa is still under wraps, the news has already spurred curiosity and excitement in some quarters of the hospitality trade, who are hoping the novelty quotient of the sologamy honeymooner will attract eyeballs from across India and the globe.

Ever since the 24-year-old made her sologamy plan public a couple of days ago, the idea of the unusual event has spurred an intense debate across social media platforms and widespread reportage in traditional media outlets.

But not everyone is excited and in her home State of Gujarat, sections in the ruling BJP have voiced strong objections to her sologamy plans calling it anti-Hindu.

A former deputy mayor of her Vadodara town Sunita Shukla says sologamy is against Hindu rituals. Shukla is the deputy chief of the BJP's Vadodara city unit and has vowed not to permit Bindu to get married in a temple there.

With Goa also being ruled by BJP, hardliners in the saffron party could possibly queer the pitch for Bindu's two-week honeymoon here.

Spokespersons of the Goa unit of the BJP, however, have declined to comment either citing ignorance of the issue or lack of formal instruction from the party.

If it does indeed happen, Bindu's could potentially be the first case of sologamy in India, the BBC has quoted her as saying. However it is a growing trend in the West where several such solo marriages have been reported.
