Hate math? SSCE students to have choice of Level I or II

Standard X students who have no intention of pursuing either the Science or Commerce streams at the higher secondary school level will be spared the burden of higher level mathematics at the Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) from the upcoming academic year beginning in June this year.   

On Monday, the Academic Council of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education approved the decision to provide students who will sit for the SSC exam in March-April 2021 the option of a higher ‘level I’ mathematics if they want to pursue either science or commerce in Class XI. Those students who wish to opt for either Arts or Commerce streams will be permitted to opt for the lower ‘level II’ mathematics.   

 A top official of the Board confirmed that the Academic Council after minimal deliberations approved the decision.

Special kids get thumbs-up  

PANAJI: The quest of a couple of special kids who were insisting on pursuing Indian classical music as one of their subjects in standard IX and XI got a ready nod of the Academic Council.   
The option of Indian Classical Music as a subject was given approval by the Academic Council and allowed to be introduced post-facto from the current (2019-20) academic year itself.   
In its day-long meeting on Monday, the council also approved introducing Hindustani Classical Music (Harmonium) and Indian Classical Music (Vocal) for CWSN students of class IX to XII.
