Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai on Sunday expressed serious reservations on the corrigendum issued by the Registrar, High Court insisting that candidates applying for post of District Judge may have sufficient knowledge of Marathi to enable the candidate to speak, read, write and translate Marathi to English and vice versa.

He told the media that the corrigendum issued by the High Court Registrar clearly appears a move to get the District Judge from outside the state. “Why should  district judges be brought from outside the state when there are many capable Goan candidates to justice for the post. Similarly, why should IAS officers preside over the quasi-judicial forums”, he questioned.

Saying that knowledge of Konkani is essential for all jobs in the state Goa, Sardesai said the Opposition parties should take up such issues to protect the interests of local candidates.

The Goa Forward party chief also  urged  the government not to get controversial schemes in the state on the eve of the upcoming Assembly elections

Meanwhile, Sardesdai said the Congress should put its house in order through talks with factions unhappy with the party organisational matters.

“It is apparent that the new Goa Congress party is being proposed primarily by factions of the Congress party. It is also clear that a significant voter base of the Congress party is rooting for the new party. This is not good for the Congress as well as for the opposition parties. The best way to diffuse the situation is for the Congress leadership to talk to the factions and resolve their issues”, he said.

Saying he is heading to London to forge an alliance with Goan diaspora settled in the UK, Sardesai said an alliance with the Goans settle in UK is the need of the hour since they take many burning issues plaguing the state of Goa.
