Director of Health Services, DrGeeta Kakodkar, visited Velim constituency on Tuesday to assess the feasibility of establishing a Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sao Jose de Areal village and an emergency care center at the Chinchinim health center. Velim MLA Cruz Silva had raised these concerns with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
Sao Jose de Areal, currently under Curtorim PHC, has been advocating for an independent health center. The Health Director, along with Velim MLA Cruz Silva and Curtorim Primary Health Officer Dr Nadkarni, inspected a shed at Nessai Industrial Estate for potential use as the Areal PHC.
Cruz Silva stated that establishing a PHC in Sao Jose de Areal has been a longstanding demand of villagers, eliminating the need for them to travel to Curtorim for medical needs. He expressed optimism about the Areal PHC becoming a reality if the Nessai Industrial Estate shed is approved.
Similarly, Cruz emphasized the necessity for an emergency care service at the Chinchinim primary health center due to its closure at 5 pm daily. He believes that a 24/7 doctor service at the PHC would greatly benefit the local community.
