Hearing in Rane disqualification petition begins

Hearing in the disqualification petition filed by Congress against Vishwajit Rane began on Thursday, with the Congress arguing for his disqualification for having disobeyed the party’s directive and having abstained during the show of strength of the Manohar Parrikar government.

Rane subsequently resigned as MLA and has since joined the BJP while now seeking a reelection from his constituency of Valpoi.   
The Congress also questioned the fairness of the speaker who they say has tried to protect Rane, and that the High Court was the only option.
