With temperatures on the rise, the State government on Wednesday reviewed its preparedness for impending heatwave conditions, with Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Revenue) Sandip Jacques stressing the need for urgent, coordinated measures to minimise risks to the public.

Chairing a meeting with senior officials, Jacques called for proactive interventions and directed all departments to remain alert and responsive. He instructed the appointment of nodal officers at both State and district levels to ensure swift coordination and timely response to emerging situations.

The review comes amid prevailing dry weather conditions across Goa, with Panaji recording a maximum temperature of 35.2°C, which is 2.3 degrees above normal, and a minimum of 25.6°C. Temperatures are expected to hover around 33–34°C from April 7, indicating a sustained period of heat.

Emphasising public safety, Jacques urged authorities to intensify awareness campaigns on heatwave precautions across multiple communication platforms. He underlined the importance of educating citizens on preventive steps and advised people to avoid venturing outdoors during peak heat unless necessary.

He also directed that adequate facilities be put in place at public locations, including access to safe drinking water and first-aid support, to assist citizens during extreme weather conditions.

The Commissioner-cum-Secretary further called on the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue timely alerts and advance warnings on rising temperatures, enabling residents to take precautionary measures in advance.

The review also took stock of preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. During the meeting, line departments presented detailed Heatwave Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and outlined key action points.

The meeting was attended by North Goa Collector Ankit Yadav, Joint Secretary (Revenue) Surendra Naik, and other senior officials.
