A rent-a-car met with an accident at Starco Junction in Anjuna on Wednesday morning after the driver allegedly lost control and rammed into a roadside cross, causing minor damage to nearby vehicles.

The incident occurred at around 8 am and was captured on CCTV footage, which shows the car approaching at high speed before crashing into the cross. The impact also knocked down two two-wheelers parked along the roadside.

According to police, no injuries were reported in the accident. However, the cross was damaged in the collision.

Anjuna Police have registered a case of motor vehicle accident following information received at the police station earlier in the day.

Police identified the driver as Shubham Khanna (32), a resident of Uttarakhand, who is currently residing in Anjuna. He was driving a Baleno car bearing registration number GA-03-V-6362 at the time of the incident.

“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the driver, along with four other occupants, was proceeding from the Anjuna Tito’s side towards Vagator when he lost control of the vehicle near Starco Junction and dashed against a roadside cross and a parked Activa scooter,” a police official said.

The Activa, bearing registration number GA-03-BA-1889, was parked by the roadside when it was hit during the crash.

Police have detained the driver for further inquiry. Officials added that all occupants in the vehicle are believed to be workers.

Further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
