Panchayats in Sattari taluka have complained that the Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) has failed to provide necessary development funds over the past four years.

As a result, local elected representatives claim that the panchayats have been severely affected, with numerous development works remaining incomplete.

When contacted, many unhappy panchas claimed that several development proposals have been pending with the DoP due to lack of funding, creating significant difficulties for panchayat.

With panchayat elections scheduled within the next year, there is growing concern among elected representatives that public dissatisfaction may translate into electoral backlash.

At present, many panchayat areas in the taluka are facing issues such as poor drainage systems, deteriorating road conditions, and lack of basic infrastructure.

According to available information, Sattari taluka comprises a total of 12 Panchayats and one municipal council across the Valpoi and Poriem constituencies. Eight panchayats fall under Poriem, while four come under Valpoi.

Elected representatives have complained that none of these panchayats have received the required funds from the DoP in the last four years, claiming that no funds were allocated to any panchayat even in 2025.

They said several development proposals were forwarded to the DoP through the Block Development Office, but none have been approved so far. Consequently, these proposals remain pending, adversely affecting the public image of local representatives, who now face growing dissatisfaction among voters.

In response to increasing complaints, several representations were made to Poriem MLA Deviya Rane. She reportedly discussed the issue with authorities and held talks with the DoP. Although assurances were given regarding fund allocation, no funds had been released to any panchayat as of the end of March.
