Goa received widespread rainfall over the last 24 hours, bringing relief after several days of weak monsoon activity and marginally reducing the seasonal rainfall deficit.
However, humid conditions persisted with the "feels like" temperature remaining 4-5°C above the actual temperature.
The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) latest bulletin stated that the State recorded 37.8 mm of rainfall between 8 am on July 21 and 8 am on July 22, with light to moderate rain occurring at most places and heavy rainfall reported at isolated locations. The southwest monsoon remained normal over Goa during the period.
The fresh spell of rain helped improve the seasonal rainfall position, with the deficit narrowing slightly to 36.2 per cent below normal.
Despite the rainfall, discomfort due to humidity continued. The maximum temperature hovered around 31.7°C, about 2.4°C above normal, while the minimum temperature was around 25°C.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for July 23, forecasting heavy rainfall and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places.
For the next 48 hours, the weather office has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 31°C and 26°C, respectively.
