MARGAO
Incessant heavy rains on Wednesday left many low-lying areas inundated in the city here, throwing life out of gear, with traffic hampered and roads were damaged further.
Margao fire brigade rushed to Agalli and near the Maruti mandir areas following calls that water had entered into nearby houses.
Making matters worse for motorists and commuters was the bumper-to-bumper traffic witnessed all along the main roads with huge craters and potholes making driving difficult and accident-prone.
The Old Market area of the city near the chapel area was inundated on Wednesday evening as evident by the fact that a car and a two-wheeler were partially submerged in the flood water.
The situation was no different along the major roads which witnessed water-logging, hampering the
free movement of vehicular traffic.
Margao’s Old Station road was as usual water logged in the heavy downpour.
Margao fire brigade also rushed to Orlim on Wednesday after a huge banyan tree came crashing down on a house and adjoining road. The personnel were holed up at Orlim till late evening.
Fire officials pointed that the Margao brigade received two calls at around 6 pm of water logging at Agalli and water entering the houses of nearby residents.
A similar call was received from the Maruti mandir area.
