Help get full-time health officer for Canacona: official to MP

CANACONA
Assuring speedy attention to various problems at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC), South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar has promised to get health authorities to visit the lone government hospital in the taluka.
Sawaikar was speaking during a surprise visit to the CHC during a camp for senior citizens from the BPL category.
Acting Health Officer Dr Shaba Gaonkar requested the MP's intervention for a full-time health officer to manage and provide better services at the CHC.
Over 300 senior citizens attended the camp organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Justice under Rashtriya Vayoshiv Yojana (National Vayoshiv Scheme) for BPL category senior citizens in collaboration with Women and Child Development, Goa Medical College, Goa Dental College, Civil Supplies, Artificial Limbs Manufacturers Corporation of India.
During the camp, senior citizens were given a free medical checkup, while some senior citizens will be provided with free physical aids and assisted living devices including artificial limbs, wheelchairs and glasses free of cost.
However on account of some misunderstanding, many senior citizens not in the BJP category also attended the camp in large numbers and got themselves examined.
It may be recalled that Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes had written to the chief minister about the poor healthcare facilities in Canacona and had also raised the issue of pitiable conditions of CHC during the recent assembly session.
