With the 17-member advisory committee on Medium of Instruction (MoI) yet to hold its state-level consultative meetings, it has sought another extension of 45 days from the state government.
Speaking to The Goan, a member of the committee informed that it has sought an extension of 45 days from the state government. Already 14 months have passed since the committee was constituted on July 15, last year.
"We are yet to hold two consultative meetings - one in South Goa and another in the North. These could not be completed due to various reasons - code of conduct for assembly elections, summer vacations and another code of conduct for panchayat elections. Now we have asked for another extension so that we can complete the report and submit it to the state government," said the member.
The 17-member committee under the Chairmanship of Bhaskar Nayak was constituted on July 15 last year to advise the state government on the issue of grants to English medium primary schools and to study the entire system to improve overall efficiency for achieving stated educational goals in the state.
The committee was required to hold extensive consultations with various stakeholders in education and submit its report within 120 days. Fourteen months later, the committee is yet to hold two consultative meetings.
Once these two hearings are completed, the suggestions and recommendations will be discussed at the meetings of the advisory committee.
"Once we finalise, these will be compiled in a report and submitted to the state government - may be in another month's time. We want to focus more on improving the quality of education," he informed.
