MARGAO
The High Court on Monday heard a writ petition challenging the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) recruitment process for lower division clerk (LDC) posts. Advocate Tarun Rebello, appearing for the petitioners, told the court that the recruitment and selection of candidates by the council will remain subject to the final outcome of the writ petition. The High Court issued notices to the MMC and the Director of Urban Development and adjourned the matter to April.
Two candidates, including an MMC staff member, have challenged the recruitment process on several grounds. One of the claims states that a candidate did not receive an admit card.
Meanwhile, the MMC has completed the recruitment process by selecting candidates for the vacant posts, according to civic chief Damu Shirodkar. The case took a new turn after one of the petitioners allegedly received a threatening call from an unknown person for challenging the recruitment process. Cuncolim police are investigating the complaint.
