A 30-year-old woman from Ambaji was left injured after a piece of iron railing from the balcony of the second floor of Hospicio building came crashing down on her, Friday noon.
The victim Rizwana Khan had just come to the Hospicio to get her relative admitted in the hospital, when the railing piece came crashing down from the second floor of the building on her.
The victim’s head was swollen and the hospital authorities kept her under observation in the hospital as a precautionary measure.
“I was accompanying my relative to the hospital when the iron railing piece came crashing down and it all happened sudden when the piece landed on my head. Though there’s no injury, my head is swollen,” Rizwana told

When The Goan called up Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Aira Almeida to throw light on the incident, which left a woman injured, she pointed out that the hospital had written a letter to the PWD to remove the iron railing since a piece had fallen down on Wednesday.
“The PWD had started the operation of removing the iron railing pieces since Wednesday. It is unfortunate that a piece of the iron railing fell on the victim,” Dr

Meanwhile, GGEA (Goa Government Employees Association) president John Nazareth, in a letter to the Health Minister has expressed apprehension of risk to the life of staff working in Hospicio Hospital, Margao.
“There are also rumours that the gallery slab of second and third floor can collapse anytime and if the same happens, there could be risk to the lives of the staff of Hospicio working in the said building,” it adds, while requesting the Health Minister to take up this
matter on priority to prevent any untoward incident and take preventive measures in order to safeguard precious lives of the people as well as the staff.
