IIT project will come up at Guleli: Sawant

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday declared that his government is firm on setting up the controversial IIT project at Guleli and dismissed the ongoing agitation by villagers of Shel-Melaulim by asserting that “they will be convinced”.

Responding to a query by a media person about the matter, CM Sawant said, “There is no decision yet on shifting IIT. IIT project will come up at Guleli itself. The government is firm on its decision. We will convince the people. We have told them.”

He sought to point out that the land measuring 10 lakh sq mtrs is government land. “I have visited the area.  The whole area doesn’t have trees. Except for a few cashew trees, there is no plantation there. We are ready to give them an alternative option. People are agitating but they will eventually be convinced. We are in talks with them,” CM Sawant stated.
