MAPUSA: The North Goa Planning and Development Authority demolished an illegal compound wall at Naika-vaddo, Calangute on Saturday evening.
Sources informed that the owner was building a compound wall around a field without leaving the mandatory setback from the road.
Further sources disclosed that Calangute panchayat had issued licence to the owner for renovation of a compound wall which never existed.
NGPDA Chairman Michael Lobo said that the department decided to take action after some people from the area complained against the illegality.
“We had to demolish the compound wall as the owner was constructing the wall without leaving any setbacks,” Lobo said. “In any case, I will not allow anyone to carry out land filling of a field,” he added.
