The government spent a whopping Rs 2.36 crore in renovating the existing KTC bus-stand in Mapusa, even as work on the new bus-stand has kicked-off.
Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza, inaugurated the renovated bus-stand in the presence of KTCL chairman Carlos Almeida on Friday.
Besides asphalting and hot-mixing of roads inside the bus-stand, works on up-gradation of toilets and pedestrian walkways were also taken up in the renovation plan. A new toll booth and ticket shed for KTC was also constructed.
The work also included improvement of drainage system and new street lighting at the bus-stand.
Parking facility for passenger rickshaws and motorcycle pilots and public parking facility for two-wheelers and four-wheelers were also streamlined.
A garbage disposal shed has also been set up in one corner of the bus-stand.
“Since the new bus-stand project will take some time, the government decided to go ahead and renovate the existing bus-stand. Presently, in new bus-stand project, only leveling work of the ground is complete,” D’Souza said.
He said that a multi-storied parking facility will come up at the existing bus-stand after it is shifted to the new place.
“A provision to provide parking for 1,000 cars and 1,500 two-wheelers will be created in the multi-level parking plan,” he said.
KTCL chairman, Carlos Almeida, informed that work on the Marcel bus-stand which is underway will be completed in another six months.
“The corporation will also spruce up the Sankhelim and Vasco bus-stands,” Almeida said.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson, Sandeep Falari and Vice-Chairperson, Marlene D’Souza were also present, among others at the inaugural function.
