The meteorological department has predicted that due to the increase in heat, light to moderate rainfall will occur in Goa, especially in the North, in the next 5 days.
The State has witnessed a dry spell for the last several days, worrying farmers across the State.
Regional meteorological center Goa director M L Sahu said that the department has issued a rainfall warning especially for North Goa.
“There is a low pressure belt developed in the Arabian Sea so there is possibility of good spell of rainfall in Goa by 19 to 20 September,” he added. The monsoon started very well in the State. In June there was surplus rain. But in July and August there was a deficit. The season total rainfall stands at around 200 cm and this rainfall is 37 cm less than the normal rainfall.
The deficit rainfall at this crucial juncture is affecting paddy cultivation in the State. It is estimated that the paddy yield will decrease by 20 per cent this year due to less rainfall.
