Asserting the Goa Cultural Policy 2007 & Goa Sports Policy 2009 were initiated by the Congress Government to encourage local talent in the field of Art & Culture and Sports, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has said the BJP government has sadly failed to effectively implement both the policies since 2012.
“These policies have provision of Grace Marks for Culturally Talented Students and Sportspersons. There is also a provision to give Job Reservations to Artists and Sportspersons”, he said.
Reacting to the statement made by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stating that government jobs will have four per cent quota for sportspersons, Yuri urged that BJP Government must effectively implement both the policies and give its benefits to artists and sportspersons.
He also reminded the Chief Minister of the Government’s earlier announcement of giving Government Jobs to Medal Winners of 37th National Games and the recent assurance of Government Job given to Miss India Deaf International Runner up Vinita Shirodkar.
“I am consistently following up with the Government on implementation of the provision in the Goa Cultural Policy to give Grace Marks to Culturally Talented Students. Unfortunately government has failed to implement the same in last ten years. I hope the government will at least effectively implement both the Policies from the coming year, stated Yuri.
Saying there is nothing new in the recent announcements of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Yuri said it was the visionary Congress Government which formulated and notified the Goa Cultural Policy & Goa Sports Policy in 2007 & 2009 respectively. “These policies were drafted taking views from all the stakeholders and experts. It is the successive BJP Governments which have failed to give grace marks to students and job reservations to the artists & sportspersons, pointed Yuri.
He added: It is also to be seen whether these recent announcements see the light of the day or remain only in the air. I have no hopes from the government which cannot implement its own Budget announcements. Government is trying to lure the voters keeping an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections”..
