Sopte directs PWD to repair Parsem road
PERNEM: Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte has directed the officials of PWD (road division) to repair all the potholes along the 400 metre stretch of main road at Vaidongor-Parsem.
PWD (road division) officer Satish Walke, former Parsem sarpanch Tulsidas Mhaldar and residents accompanied Sopte during the inspection.
It may be recalled that the residents had repeatedly complained that potholes along the 400 metre stretch of main road at Vaidongor-Parsem were responsible for small mishaps.
The residents said the previous government failed to repair the road and soon after Sopte was elected as MLA, the residents urged him to repair the road.
Acting on the locals’ demand, Sopte inspected of the road and directed the authorities concerned to repair road before the monsoon.
Speaking to reporters, Sopte said he will try his best to give good quality roads to the public.

Ravi Naik stresses on more reservoir tanks
PONDA:  Ponda MLA Ravi Naik on Wednesday advised the water supply officials to set up three reservoir tanks to resolve the issue of water scarcity.
Naik had convened a meeting of the officials of PWD, sewerage department and water supply to address the issues of water scarcity.
Naik has advised to install two reservoir tanks in Durgabhat and Curti to resolve the issue and told the officials that sites are also identified for it.
Naik said Goa receives about 120 inches of rainfall every year and there should not be problem of water scarcity if more dams are constructed. “This is very much possible in Goa. The government should try to construct more dams,” he said.
The sewerage department officials informed Naik that they will try to complete the work of laying pipeline network in a short time. They were told to replenish the roads that were damaged during the work. “Hot mixing of roads is possible only after the work of sewerage network is completed,” Naik told reporters.

Mickky for ordinance on liquor ban
MARGAO:  Asserting that the Constitution mandates the Legislature to legislate and the courts to interpret the laws, former Minister Mickky Pacheco on Thursday demanded that the government issue an ordinance to save the hundreds of bars and liquor outlets in the case of the Supreme Court order banning operation of these 500 meters from the national and State highways.
The former minister further demanded that the BJP-government come out with a legislation to protect the liquor outlets from closure and ensure there’s no restriction on the supply of beef in the State. He further said the government should also come out with its own legislation to replace the Madhya Pradesh Sound Act given that Goa is a tourist State.
Addressing the media, Mickky said the Supreme Court has no right to create the law, adding that it is the right of the legislature to bring a law on any issue or policy. He has demanded to know why the BJP MLAs, belonging to the minority community are quiet, with the government doing nothing to save the bars and liquor outlets and on the demand to ban beef in Goa.
“Ban on liquor in Goa doesn’t mean end of alcoholism, but it means an end of jobs for thousands of workers and means of earning to hundreds of families,” he added.
He said that BJP leader Subramanyam Swami has chosen Goa for banning beef, thanks to the BJP government in Goa, which has given him a complete feedback.
He appealed to the government not to indulge in divide and rule like the British government. “It will be the end of the BJP in Goa in five years if the ban on alcohol and beef is enforced in the State. Demanding beef ban is nothing, but hurting the minorities in Goa, who depend on beef for their festivities and celebrations,” he said.
