Indira elected St Cruz sarpanch
OLD GOA: Indira Fernandes was elected unopposed as sarpanch of Santa Cruz panchayat, at a special meeting in the panchayat office on Thursday.
Seven panchas of the ruling group were present, including the husband of Indira, Tony Fernandes, Dy Sarpanch Diksha Kavlekar, Anna Fernandes, Namdev Naik, Sanjay Faterpekar and former sarpanch Maria Rodrigues.
ZP member Sauanna Araujo also remained present to extend her support.
It may be recalled that the sarpanch's post had fallen vacant after Maria Rodrigues had stepped down as part of the mutual agreement reached among the ruling panchas to share the post for an equal term.
After the election, Indira Fernandes promised to undertake development in all wards of the village by taking everybody in confidence and with the help of local MLA Babush Monserrate, who is supporting the ruling group.
EOVP Anil Dhumaskar was present as the observer, while secretary Hanumant Borkar assisted in the election process.
Four panchas remained absent.
