Fire at Sancoale company
CORTALIM: The cooling tower of the Meta Strips company at Sancoale caught fire on Thursday evening, causing damages of Rs 5 lakh.
Speaking to The Goan, Verna Fire Station Officer Delip Bicholkar said that they got a call that there was a fire in the company premises.
“I suspect that the cooling tower of the company, which has been closed for over three years, caught fire by the burning grass,” Bicholkar said.
Fire tenders from Vasco and Margao fire stations were also pressed into service to bring the fire under control.
According to the company employee Seby Serrao the fire spread in the company from outside the company premises.
“I feel some people may have set fire to the grass on Thursday morning that gradually spread in the company premises in the evening,” Serrao told The Goan.
